Perhaps, but the element is NOT removable * Adjustable temperature [sic] thermostat [sic] control Amazingly this is a fairly well designed thermostatic device, with a chintzy plastic wheel; Sure to meet with another hot item in the kitchen to provide it the melting it so sorely demands. * Single self-cleaning coiled heating plate Self cleaning, Huh? The Peanuts Pig-Pen was more self cleaning. Did I mention the Element is NOT removable? * Safety on/off switch I don't know how safe it is? I mean it's a switch, it's plastic and it has a light in it that is on when the thermostat switches on the element. If this is the current state of the art in safeness, then, well, its safe. Somehow I think it's just a switch. * Indicator light Yep, it is a light sometimes on, sometimes off. It does not indicate that the element is removed, because the element is NOT removable. * 1000 watts What? 1001 now. * UL listed I didn't know there was an Urban Legend listing place, but if you say so. It is an urban legend that the element is removable so I guess it qualifies. Who knew?
