Product Description
A pregnancy belly cast, sometimes called a belly mask or belly mold, is a plaster cast made of an expecting mom's beautiful pregnant form. Pregnancy is a very special, yet fleeting, time in a woman's life and memories quickly fade. Photos only capture a flat 2-dimensional image, but a pregnancy belly cast captures the exciting transformation a mom undergoes during pregnancy in a full 3 dimensions!

A pregnancy belly cast enables a mom to forever remember how she looked during her pregnancy and the special nine months she shared with her growing baby. As one mom aptly put it, "It is a really cool way of capturing your pregnant body. You can show your child later that this is what mom looked like when you were inside!"

These pregnancy kits have been featured on the national TV talk shows "The View" and "LIVE with Regis & Kelly" & that fabulous pregnancy show on TLC "A Baby Story"!

Making a pregnancy belly cast is a fun and easy project using our kit. It takes only about 45 minutes and there is no mixing of messy materials. All you need to provide is a pair of scissors and a basin of water. The casting material used in making a pregnancy belly cast is extra-fast setting premium quality plaster of paris bandage material and it sets in as quick as 2-4 minutes. The whole process really is fail-proof and the end result is a perfect 3D memento of an expecting mom's beautiful pregnant belly!

Each of our kits come gift-boxed in our signature 6x6x6 2-piece purple gift box tied with white tulle ribbon. Our kit comes with everything needed to make a belly cast: 4 rolls of 4 inch wide by 5 yard long premium-quality casting material (equivalent to a 4 foot by 5 foot sheet of material), all natural lubricant, non-slip drop cloth, pair of Nitrile (non-latex) gloves, sanding screen & detailed instructions (including pictures).

A belly cast is usually made 4-6 weeks before a mom's due date, but you could also make multiple belly casts to capture the miraculous changes in mom's body throughout her pregnancy. Many couples enjoy making a belly cast together, providing dad with a unique bonding experience with both mom and baby. Others throw belly casting parties and invite their friends to help make or decorate their belly cast.

The number one question we get asked is "Is it hard to make a belly cast"? Making a belly cast using our kit is a very fun and easy craft. Anyone can make a belly cast with a loved one in the privacy of their home in about 45 minutes. No mixing of messy materials is required and the end result is a perfect 3D memento of an expecting mom's belly or torso. Our kit contains only the finest available products. We have done a significant amount of research regarding each product selected to be included in our kit.

Over time, we received requests from customers wanting an all-natural lubricant and we listened! Unable to find a product on the market that provided the same amount of barrier protection to moms skin as Vaseline, we had a lubricant especially made just for us: Belly Rub.

Our all-natural Belly Rub lubricant provides an excellent barrier between moms skin and the casting material so the belly cast is easy to remove from moms skin after it has dried. Plus, our Belly Rub is body and earth-friendly.

ProudBody Belly Rub is made of all-natural ingredients: Beeswax, cocoa butter, olive oil and vitamin E. Belly Rub is easily washed from moms skin once her belly cast has been removed or she can allow it absorb into her skin. It is so much easier to remove than messy Vaseline but it provides the same excellent barrier protection!

Pregnancy Belly Casting Tips

How to make a pregnancy belly cast including your hands

Some moms like to include the hands of a loved one in their pregnancy belly cast. It is very easy to do. Just put the hands right on the belly, apply the Vaseline over the back of the hands as you are coating the rest of the mom's casting area, and then simply cast right over the hands. Make sure the fingers are spread far enough apart so that it is easily distinguishable that it is a hand being cast into the pregnancy belly cast.

How to get a really smooth pregnancy belly cast

A tip to make a really smooth cast is to dip your fingers in water after you apply a couple of overlapping layers of the plaster casting strips and rub your fingers over the layers to mix the plaster of paris together among the layers. Work fairly quickly as the plaster strips will begin to dry within a few minutes after you begin applying the plaster strips. After your pregnancy belly cast has completely dried, lightly sand it with the sanding screen included in our kit. If you still want an even smoother surface, apply 1-2 layers of Gesso (acrylic priming paint) and let dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.

A more advanced method of making a smoother cast is to apply a thin layer of joint compound or spackle which can be found at your local home improvement store. Apply it with your fingers and as it starts to dry, smooth it out more with your fingers. Allow it to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions and then lightly sand it using our sanding screen. You may need to apply more than 1 layer of joint compound or spackle, allowing each layer to dry and lightly sanding in between each coat.

How to support your breasts during the casting

Since pregnancy belly casting is typically done with the mom unclothed from below the belly up, a common question we get asked is "just how can my breasts have some support while I'm doing the casting?" There are a few different ways to give your breasts some support during the casting:

1. My favorite is to take a long piece of saran wrap, fold it in half and wrap it around your body beginning under your breasts where your bra strap would usually rest. Continue to wrap the saran wrap around your body working your way up under your breasts until you have the amount of support you desire;

2. wear a strapless bra, but the fabric and seams will show through your cast, and don't wear your favorite bra because between the Vaseline and the casting material, even after washing it will probably never be the same again; or

3. buy those disposable "pasty" bras that are available at your local department store.

How to include your thighs in the casting

To have your pregnancy belly cast look right, you will need to do your casting while standing. Start the casting from the top and work your way down. When you get to the bottom of your belly, place a piece of saran wrap over your pubic area to keep the wet casting material from sticking to it. Slather the saran wrap with Vaseline prior to placing it over your pubic area. You will need to hold the saran wrap in place while your helper places the first wet strip over the pubic area. Thereafter, the wet casting strips will hold the saran wrap in place.

Alternatively, you can wear a pair of panties. Try to wear a more delicate pair since the seams won't show as much. Then tuck the saran wrap into the seams to hold it in place.

Vaseline removal from the inside of your pregnancy belly cast

You might wonder just how to get the excess Vaseline out of the inside of your cast. If you're a patient person (and I wasn't when I made mine!), the Vaseline will eventually dry out. If you want quicker results, first take a dry paper towel and wipe out any excess. Then, take another paper towel and dip it in rubbing alcohol and gently dab it on the Vaseline to dissolve it. Just be careful not to apply so much rubbing alcohol that it saturates your pregnancy belly cast.

Smoothing the edges of your pregnancy belly cast

Don't worry about having the edges of your pregnancy belly cast be even as you are making the cast. After your pregnancy belly cast has completely dried, you can take a pair of sharp scissors and trim the edges to make them even if you like.

Reinforcing thin areas of your pregnancy belly cast

If you have casting material left over, you can reinforce the cast where needed. Simply wet additional casting strips and place them on the inside of your belly cast where reinforcements are needed. If you have run out of casting strips, you can order additional rolls to make your reinforcements.

Here's a tip submitted from one of our customers--they bought a body repair kit from an auto parts store. "The kit comes w/ glass cloth and epoxy resin. We applied it to the inside of the cast and brushed a light coat of resin on the outside. Then sanded, primed and painted. The cast is so incredibly durable now!! We recommend that anyone who's cast feels flimsy due to not putting enough layers on in certain sections (as was the problem with ours) to do this easy technique."

My daughter's "Belly Cast" is simply beautiful. The materials were easy to work with and the entire process took only about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. A couple of years ago I had my hands professionally molded and I feel the casting product you supply is comparable. The finished product was a gift for my daughter and son that will be treasured for many, many years.

  Tiffany H. from Orange County

It was easy to use. Very Fun! Everyone should do this for their pregnant belly.

  Michael W. from Brandon, MS

Had a wonderful time with my wife and soon to be son. The casting was simple and easy to use. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to cast their belly. Instructions were right on. I only have one-arm and it was quite fun with momma's help and my sister-in-law. We finished up in under 20 minutes and 10-15 minutes later, the casting on momma was done.

  Prout M. from Doylestown, PA

I would recommend the belly casting kit! You end up with a beautiful memory of your baby before he or she is even born. My husband and I were moved when we were finished with the cast. It was amazing to see the difference from one pregnancy to another. The baby lay differently as well as how I had grown. Try it with one pregnancy or all.
